Working Dog Consult

In early September, I spoke at the Australian Sheep Vets Conference in Dubbo.

I presented 2 topics, How to Approach the Working Dog Consult in the Working Dog Stream and Resilience: How To Cope with Adversity in Practice in the main stream.

When I presented the working dog consult, I discussed the difference in the relationship between farmers who have working dogs compared to pets.  I considered farmers to be a B2B, business to business, relationship rather than a B2C, business to client, relationship.

The difference is that farmers see their working dogs as a resource and will have a different value equation for their dogs.  They also want a ROI on their veterinary fees and will want to see a return to performance.  Discussing risk is also important when evaluating cases.

It was an enjoyable session.

The second session where I discussed Resilience was very well received.  I wasn’t sure how sheep vets would find the session but they enjoyed it and it was great to talk to many people after the session.

Although I only attended the first day and flew out early the next morning, I believe it was a very successful conference and I congratulate the organisers for their hard work and commitment for producing a great program.
