In the last post, I discussed Adam Grant’s article on languishing, which is a low level of wellbeing and no mental illness. People who are languishing aren’t feeling great but are getting by.

Austin Kleon wrote a rebuttal.

He doesn’t agree the people are languishing. He believes they’re dormant, waiting to be activated.

I know when we were in lockdown unable to go out, I was very excited when I could. I was rested and rearing to go.

However, over the last few months, I’ve been so busy in all areas of my life, that I’m not dormant waiting to be activated, I’m becoming depleted. I haven’t been able to rest and recharge. It’s the life of a working parent with children with a full schedule. When did that happen again!!

From my perspective of the veterinary industry at the current time, many teams are languishing due to chronic overwork and stress. They are depleted, not dormant.

However, if they are able to rest, recover and recharge and rediscover their joy for practice, I know they can move from languishing.
