Coping with StressOn the 14th May, I will be presenting at the Gold Coast Vets Pub Night on ‘Coping with Stress’.

Stress has become the number 1 issue facing individuals and workplaces recently.  It contributes to ill health, disengagement, frustration and disillusionment.  The pressure to perform and produce results has increased, although there are reduced resources available.  So you are having to do more with less!  The more I learn about stress and the biochemical, hormonal, neurological effects on the body, the more I become concerned.

All stress isn’t bad though and that is what I will discuss in my presentation.  We need stress, referred to as eustress, to maximise our performance.  How you view situations can determine whether your body produces a stress response or not.  Your mindset is critical.
The problem becomes when your arousal levels increase and tip you into distress, which leads to fatigue and reduced performance.  Continued high levels of stress lead to chronic stress which has many detrimental effects.  Chronic stress can contribute to compassion fatigue and burnout.
It is important to learn to manage your stress to reduce your stress response but also learn to activate the parasympathetic nervous system to calm, rest and repair your body.
In the talk, I will define stress, the external and internal factors that contribute to stress and the how to reduce stress.
I look forward to seeing you there,
Natasha
